ABR DeltaWave Reference Closeness

ABR residuals · DeltaWave · original WAV comparison

How close do the ABR builds measure against the original WAV?

This page keeps the ABR DeltaWave residual data separate from the VBR/cVBRb closeness page. It compares the historical ABR rows, the optimized ABR row, and the single ABR boost result using the same residual-style measures.

Lower residual values are useful technical indicators, but they are not listening-test verdicts.

The short version

3.96.1 is the strongest historical ABR row in these residual metrics, with the most negative Difference RMS, PK median, and DF median values.

The optimized ABR and boosted ABR rows are close to the recent public-release rows, with the ABR boost improving some residual measures relative to the unboosted optimized ABR row.

ABR is separated from VBR/cVBRb so the residual and frequency-response stories do not get mixed across different encode modes.

ABR residual charts

These charts use DeltaWave report-level residual metrics extracted from the ABR report set.

More negative residual values generally mean a lower measured residual against the original WAV. Correlated null depth is different: higher is deeper.

FAQ

Is this a quality ranking?

No. This page shows ABR residual measures against one demanding original WAV. It does not replace listening tests.

Why split ABR from VBR?

The ABR reports behave differently enough that separate pages make the charts, tables, and caveats easier to read.
